The BEA Marketing Working Group hosted a guest presentation on “The Cost of Comfort” followed by an open discussion & local campaign updates.

We heard from Ashutosh Lohana, a final-year Master’s student at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, on his project “The Cost of Comfort”. The work investigates, analyzes, and communicates the effects of exterior heat leakages of homes in Cape Ann, MA. Utilizing thermal imaging and accompanying visuals, “The Cost of Comfort” wordlessly conveys the need for building retrofits and fuel-switching. Following Ashutosh’s presentation and Q&A, we discussed local campaign and communications work.

Speaker Bio:
Trained as an architect, Ashutosh spent the foundational years of his professional career in the sustainable township of Auroville, India, where he gained first-hand experience in the philosophy and techniques of sustainable design.

This invaluable experience led him to the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he delved into both theoretical and technical research, focusing on sustainable building methodologies and materials. Ashutosh’s work is characterized by a deep interest in the narratives of sites, resource optimization, and human comfort. Grounded in data-driven analysis, Ashutosh is committed to pushing creative and technical boundaries, contributing to the dynamic landscape of material culture and building technology.
